Product Description
This is New .020" Ceriated Tungsten Electrodes (10pc. total) by SEVEN inch long, Color Code Orange.
2% Ceriated, Orange or Grey, An excellant alternative to Thoriated tungsten especially in low amperage welding. Takes 10% less current to start and has a very stable arc.
EWCe Electrode Classification
Tungsten electrodes were first introduced into the United States market in the early 1980's. These electrodes were developed as possible replacements for thoriated electrodes because cerium, unlike thorium, is not a radioactive element. The EWCe-2 electrodes are tungsten electrodes containing 2 percent cerium oxide (CEO2), referred to as ceria. Compared with pure tungsten, the Ceriated electrodes exhibit a reduced rate of vaporization or burn-off. These advantages of ceria improve with increased ceria content. EWCe-2 electrodes will operate successfully with AC or DC.
This non-radioactive alternative to 2% Thoriated Tungsten is best when used primarily in DC welding at low currents. It has excellent arc starting capabilities at low currents and therefore it has become the standard for many orbital tube and pipe welding equipment manufacturers. In addition, it is often used in other low amperage applications where small or delicate parts are being welded. It would not be good for higher amperage applications, because the oxides migrate very quickly to the heat at the tip under these conditions and the oxide content and benefits are then removed.
